Man with Toupee, 2025

$1,950.00

Cristina Doyle
Mixed media on paper with sculpted frame
one of a pair with Portrait of Blonde
65 × 55cm
Sculptured Frame

Man with Toupee and Muse of San Tropez offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Baroque portraiture. With ornate framing and an air of ceremonial obligation, the works gently satirise those who aspire to be something they are not, while also commenting on the modern ‘selfie’ phenomenon and our collective obsession with fame, beauty and permanent digital record. Both subjects confront the viewer directly, asking for attention and challenging notions of authenticity and performance. The compositions are created using a mixture of acrylic-painted cuttings layered over paper, producing richly textured, visually complex surfaces. The frame is constructed from painted composite timber, furthering the piece’s blend of traditional reference and contemporary materials.
