Laneway Lullaby 2023
By Cristina Doyle
Acrylic and spray paint on canvas
130 × 100cm
Framed
Conjuring up a city streetscape complete with graffiti, reflections, laneways and neon lights this piece hides a sense of imminent threat. All is not what it seems. The grid like composition knits areas of the painting together but, doesn’t suggest an escape route for the viewer. The dominance of pink, turquoise, ochre and black give rise to a sense of underlying and unsuspected foreboding. Despite the darkness of this painting and theme it possesses an intriguing quality that continually draws me back to study it. Framed in black timber.
