Almost every art work I create results from questions raised by a previous piece and Betty’s Baubles is no exception.
In this large scale acrylic painting I aimed to produce a composition using honest / innate brushwork as the subject.
A brush stroke, splatter or swipe is inherently a mark which is unique to me. So this painting is very much a ‘signature’ piece. It has my DNA mark woven into it. A painting created from motion, emotion and feel. I also chose to use extra bold colour to heighten a sensory response from the viewer.
Why call this work Betty’s Baubles?
The overall result of circles, dots and gaudy hues is a jewellery like quality and it reminded me of rummaging through an old Aunts jewellery box.
